Two threads, one single vision
We are Cinzia Di Pietro and Lucia Lapone. We share a passion for resist dyeing, the patience of tying, and the allure of indigo. We explore the hidden potential of fabric, guiding its transformation into three-dimensional forms. We decided to combine our energies to bring Italian Shibori out of the shadows and create a collaborative space open to everyone.
shiboritalia is an independent project born from the meeting of two passionate artisans. Our goal is to map, promote, and elevate the Italian community of this extraordinary Japanese textile art, creating a direct bridge to international networks.
Why shiboritalia?
In many countries, strong networks and vibrant communities dedicated to Shibori already thrive. In Italy, however, this technique is still little known and practiced in isolation.
We believe that Italian artistic craftsmanship has a unique voice. By joining forces, we can build a national network capable of connecting, exchanging skills, and participating in major international events.

about us
Cinzia Di Pietro
My connection with shibori began in 2018 through independent research into Japanese techniques, which explore nature, the beauty of materials, the elegance of forms and the power of Zen philosophy.
After training across Europe, the United States and Japan under the guidance of masters such as Makiko Tokunaga, Kenta Watanabe and Cornelia Buttmann-Scholl (founder of European Shibori Lovers, an association of which I am a member), I opened my own workshop in Genoa: Light Deep Blue-Lab, a space in which to experiment with the arts I have learnt along the way.
Today I’m sharing a new challenge. My collaboration with Lucia has given rise to the shiboritalia collective. Together we’re working to promote the culture of this ancient technique, weaving together international connections and contemporary sensibilities.

Lucia Lapone
I am a textile designer and fibre artist, an independent researcher and author of essays on Japanese textile culture and that of Asia in general.
Since 2009, I have been a member of the World Shibori Network, the organisation through which I undertook my first study trip to Japan to learn and practise shibori techniques.
That experience marked the start of a journey of research that has brought me to where I am today: meeting Cinzia and the desire to share and work together on a common idea – the shiboritalia collective.
